a Paz is home to many charismatic marine animals, and sea lions & whale shark are two of the most popular – we would like to show you why! On this whole day tour, enjoy amazing wildlife experiences and visit enchanting Espiritu Santo Island.
Leaving from La Paz in the morning, we will make the 60 minute boat journey to the northern point of Espiritu Santo Island, to the sea lion colony at Los Islotes. Here we will jump into the water to interact with playful and curious sea lion pups. Additionally, this rocky outcrop also showcases some beautiful shallow coral, with many fish species, as well as a host of birds.
Once we have finished snorkeling, we will make our way to one of the many beautiful beaches on the island for our lunch break. After lunch and a rest, we make our way to the whale shark sanctuary to swim with these enigmatic animals.
Between mid October and mid May each year, juvenile whale sharks aggregate in the shallow waters to feed on the plankton that becomes trapped in the southern portion of La Paz Bay. As an endangered species, hot spots like La Paz are significant for their population, and it is a privilege to experience the thrill and tranquillity of swimming with these magnificent filter-feeding sharks.
This is a trip full of highlights, and the Sea of Cortes has lots of other life to enjoy on the way. There are lots of seabird species, including Frigatebirds, various species of Boobies, and rarities like the Red-billed Tropicbird.
